Planning

You probably don't have much time, nevertheless you want to spend it as useful possible. You must consciously choose for certain tasks such as documentation, blueprint(wireframes). I first formulate my goals and then set priorities based on my own priorities and those of my visitors. I do this on paper, as my plan's tend to change during the day - to note that I tend to plan one day in advance.

Divide your planning by task this way:

60% Planned activities
20% Buffer time
20% Other

This will mean that you have 60% time for your task you planned, 20% buffer time if an task takes more time then expect, 20% time for doing things such as to print, uploading, downloading. Plan everything in detail the evening before doing the task; this will take away disadvantage of changes.

Evaluate your task critically and briefly point what went good and what went wrong. Document this in an evaluation so that you can tackle future problems faster.

Discussion

Planning is a difficult subject. Specially since so many differend things are working with it like project type, team size, possible resources and knowlegde. Most of the time making a good planning schedule isn't the problem. The real problem is in keeping and sticking to it. How many times did you caught you self sneaking off on a task that you should be doing ?. From my own experience I can tel you this is real hard. So when you do make a planning make it one that is also fit to your social life other wise you will keep sneaking out of it.

Well most of my planning fits my social life and sticking to it also becomes hard. I just learned that it is better to immediately start with the task, so I dont run into any time problems.

A friend of me also helps me with this by saying you should make this document now!
