Task focused content

Content is still growing on most organization’s websites, and the "less is more"? principle is getting widely applied in all kinds of web applications.

Amazon.com really .com?

Amazon.com really .com?

Amazon.com has a very attractive text along many of it's items : FREE Super Saver Shipping , I was quite happy because I know the shipping costs are high. Finding out that it was a USA only offer. I am very surprised to see Amazon.com making this mistake.

While thinking about new entries I got to the idea to post intresting links. Many website have great content, and intresting topics, but finding that content is mostly hard because you cant focus on visiting all those sites in a schedule.

Then I came by the site www.frish.nl(Rogier Strobbe) wich always cought my intrest with its funny and intresting links. So I came to the conclusion thats the best way to keep on posting those entry's.

My first Linkypoo, with links related to the basics of Information

Redesign : Information Architect Influence?

Redesign : Information Architect Influence?

Many websites redesign within some months or years, but what goes wrong when you cannot recognize the website after a few redesigns? Many commercial websites change their total colour combinations and basically, there whole image. Because they want something more modern and more special look. Of course redesigns "are most of the time" needed to keep the site in the spotlights and new user or business goals that need influence.

Navigation blindness

Navigation blindness

Many development teams put enormous amount of effort and time into the navigation process. With a good eye on the user goals, but what if the user ignores the whole navigation structure and the tools?

Using Personas

Using Personas

Personas are at heart of trying to communicate design decisions.  They mostly look so simple, while hanging on the wall. However they are far away from the design process. The papers with the personas should be taken off the wall and placed on the desk, in the lunchroom, in the car, in the toilet.

The personas should be taken to more personal places so you can understand the persona and his expectations and processing of information/design. You must see the personas as your neighbours (the nice ones) who are really busy doing other things so need to find information quickly.

Definition of IA

Definition of IA

It has been a busy week; nevertheless I couldn't find inspiration for total posts. From drafts about foundation for the future, global extending to Writing Scenarios, Simplicity and Elegance. I don't want to search for inspiration, simply because that doesn't work. I need real-life inspiration.

Motionless sitting behind a A4 sheet, got me thinking about the words I use on my blog and draw out maps of words. Of course not everything can be drawn so while opening my Words I get this question from a good Friend : "What is Information Architecture?".

IA Book : Christina Wodtke

IA Book : Christina Wodtke

The first time I ran into a good Information Architecture book (The Louis Rosenfeld one is still a bit to hard for me). Was Information Architecture from Christina Wodtke, which had some impressive subjects. Especially about the big mistake that webmasters make about how users  only scan and don't really read content. A good example of this are Reviews that are most likely to be read, but instead most reviews will be scanned for quotes and information to determain the pro's and con's of the game/book quickly.

Way Finding

Way Finding

What exactly is wayfinding? Navigation? While navigation is the biggest problem on the internet these days. Just like in real live are directions very important to find your way, so why wouldnt you find an Information Architect for your website? I think it's mostly because it's unkown, you won't find many websites related to Information Architecture and also on big websites such as www.sitepoint.com it is still a small subject.
